This is why I keep a length of strong cordage in my detecting bag. One single bolt to hold the arm cuff on? There's a lot of torque here so you would think there would be something more substantial. Time to find a new shaft.

Also, my finds before the cuff broke...to stay in line with Today's Finds. Let's hope the post repair finds are better!

Alum strips and pop rivits to hold mine on

Did this to the box unit on mine makes it more rigid for swinging in water, the torque broke the original box. Also had the same part as you had break and Garrett made it right they sent me a new cuff that has been improved compared to what mine originally came with.100_4961.webp100_4960.webp

Your cord fix looks plenty good, at least till new part arrives.
Your probably right 2 screws would be twice as strong, with virtually no weight added.

DownNDirty pretty much said it all.
All of my experiences with Garrett "After Sales and Service" have been excellent. From replacement parts to complete unit replacement. They will give you the support you need and their engineers and designers will look into correcting their original design flaws.
Good job on the "Tector First Aid"

I abused an XLT for 20 years before I sold it, and never had a problem with anything mechanical. I hate to see designed obsolescence in a metal detector, but that is what this is.

Another example is the mounting ears on Minelab coils. Very weak, and I have seen more than a few broken ones.

Just wondering, how long have you had your Garrett? Wear and tear is inevitable, BUT, I've had my White's for 12 years without defect. I think it's just the comes with the rigors of much usage. If your detector has pretty much paid for itself, then so be it.
