Found these in a stack with a couple shovels and a pick as well as some very long degraded dynamite and plenty of stone/clay whiskey bottles near a pretty worked 1800s mining claim. Were these smiting tools repurposed for some sort of blasting purposes? Or just general smiting tools.

Since there are no pics I will take a wild stab at it. I'm guessing since you mentioned smiting tools and mining I am going to assume that the tools look like smithing tools but are likely tools used for smelting ore for test samples but many miners had other jobs before mining. Being a Smith at a mining camp would have had good potential to earn extra money from your trade and not just rely on your claim.
