Learning experience for me.
I really like it.
The details, the patina, the expressions , the posture , the symbols ,
It Still has alot to tell me.

Aquired today, made of wood.
Looks like a honest antique to me.
And a treasure.

Depending on the country what it's called.
Seem to be all very similar.

Nice carving. I bought this African ironwood piece a few weeks back. I figured it was worth the seven dollars and change it cost.

Looks to be nicely carved.

Generally referred to as a "Godess", having transformed from male to female, but traditionally regarded as genderless/non-binary.

This rendition I believe is Chinese,
I notice and am quite pleased to see the necklace of the ruyi.
I am interested in what is depicted on her head, it looks like a sun flower. But I am gunna guess it's a lotus seed pod.

Some interesting things I stumble upon while starting to research.
Guanyin had 33 manifestations.
Is very similar to depictions of "Mary"

,,,And the look of the hood worn is reminiscent of certain headware, from some angles looks like a liberty cap...

The hair is in traditional style with a top-knot, like this wig:

There’s then a jewelled crown, with the top-knot poking through it. The crown often has an image of Amitabha Buddha seated cross-legged, but it doesn’t seem to be there on yours.

Traditionally, the robes are draped over the head in the manner of a bunched-up shawl, which I think is only what the rest of it depicts.

Nice score.

I inherited a Guanyin candle that now stands on the top shelf facing the front door because I was under the impression that she was a protector of the abode.
Cut the wick off so it cant be lit. :)

I do see the crown depicted usually as you described redcoat. And it may be just that.
But to me it looks too much like a flower rather then a crown.
And I have some ideas why...
And here are some photos of similar. Leading me to the same query.

Been some cool stuff at the thrift lately. I feel like sharing a little.
About a week ago or so I missed out on a eBay auction of a brass ramDao sword that had some interesting script(similar to the script I ind today). A last minute bidder gave me some competition and I wasnt ready to pay....
I kinda regret it but , I had a good feeling about it. Usually when I miss out on something, I find something better.
Couple days after loosing that sword I found the guanyin statue. Then a few days later I went back to the thrift. And found a dorje, not the first I find. I got another over a decade ago.
Today a few days later again I found some more interesting stuff. Some tibetan script on wood ???. A occupied Japan Toby mug. The wood doll, some brass book ends??? worth more than probably what I spent on everything. Curious if anyone can find info about them they are quite a style... Also got this walrus bone carving. Looking like it could be real old one?

Always fun to see what a thrift store comes up with. They're an endless opportunity to find all kinds of deals.

I think the wood printing block says om Mani Padme hum. Over and over
