Walking back up the driveway from taking the garbage out I had to stop and look at a rock that caught my eye. Sure enough, my first agate find of 2017. It sits right where I found it, embedded in my driveway. :laughing7:

Nice to know that I can find things when there is still snow cover. :)

Thing is, knowing how much you like your agates Eric, how long will it remain there??? Hahh! :) Funny how often we walk by whats staring at us. Nice find.

lol. I would be lying if I said I am not considered digging it out. You only live once and you can never have too many agates. (They should put that on my tombstone).

It just occurred to me I have a $7 off my next $35+ purchase coupon for my hardware store. Crazy, it's usually $5. This agate will be free! (Pun intended)

The agate is now sitting in a warm mineral oil bath to clean the rest of the tar off of it. :headbang:

Ha!

I told you asphalt is easy digging! :laughing9:

Do the neighbors have asphalt drives?

Now I'm crossing over from enabler to bad influence....:tongue3:

lol. I like the way you think. My neighbors are pretty far away out here. However, my driveway is very long so I might not even have it all searched by the time the snow has melted and revealed stones that are a little easier to pick. ;)

I like the agate you have there. I can't tell how big it is from the photo but....

I would cut, shape and polish it... and make it into a necklace or pendant. :)

Thanks! Good point, I neglected to include a size reference. It is about 3/4 of an inch.

I have not decided if I am going to do anything to this one. I kind of like it as it is. I have thousands of agates and have not powered on my lapidary equipment for probably over a year. The good thing about that is some day I will get the bug again to do some lapidary work and I will have a lot of material to choose from. :)

Nice agate and thanks for sharing.
Allow me to be some help...... :laughing7: Gasoline will cut that asphalt quick, too..... :notworthy:
(especially in your neighbors driveways). :laughing7:
That way, you won't risk chipping them pretty agates, with the hammer.

Going to be alot of pot holes around there in the future I reckon ;)

Perhaps this is why MN roads are so well known for the potholes. They form in winter because all the agate collectors dig them out of roads when the snow cover prevents them from collecting elsewhere. ;)
