Detected a cabin site that was built on top of a Woodland Indian site. Eye-balled some pottery shards & then found this unexpected Trade Silver triangle! This is easily the largest triangle I have ever found. Normally the one's I find are 1/4 to 1/2 inches across........this one is a strong 1".
Also nice it still has the thin brass wire loop in place.
Normally frozen up here in the middle of December............so was glad to get my "fix" !!

Beautiful. I wonder what is was hammered out of.

Possibly cut from a gorget?
I'm trying to figure out how (and why) the impressed circle on it was made.........a half reale fits it perfectly ...........definately was done after it left the Montreal silversmith's! It was pressed into it hard enough to show on the backside.........

Thank's for the nice comment!

Yes the hand etched scroll work seems later after maybe being hammered out of a coin. Interesting sir!

Richard, actually, the scroll work was made by the silversmith to decorate the gorget ( or possibly an armband ):happysmiley: Sorry, I guess my post wasn't too clear!

That's a really sweet piece of silver you got so late in the season Dale, congrats on the find. The round impression is interesting for sure, and your theory of a coin impression seems to be logical.

I'm going to vote banner on this one, and not just because I like your find.

This is a rare and incredible find in my book!

Very nice find! Thanks for sharing with us.
