Walked a new creek system today for the first time. Found several pieces of flint but not much else in the way of an "arrowhead". On the way back to the truck, fate intervened and I noticed an odd looking stone. When I picked it up, I was thrilled to discover that it was actually a super sweet grinding stone. It has a deep indention and the diameter is about the size of a softball. You can see the grooves of where it was ground down with repeated use. Again, I don't know what prompted me to focus on this particular stone, as it looked like a lump of clay sitting there. I had already gone stone-blind from staring at piles of rocks for 3 1/2 hours. I guess seeing the pebbles resting on top of the stone tipped me off that something was up. The photos just can't convey what the relic really looks like. It's a no-brainer archaic artifact. Pretty cool! Never know what you'll find. Maybe it's mate, the pestle will turn up someday. The moral of the story is "never give up, believe that you WILL find what you're looking for!". May the new year bring hope and cheer.......Creekwalker

Creekwalker, I can't wait to see your post :icon_thumleft: You find the coolest artifacts :headbang: I wish I could walk with you sometime as I see so many things in the creeks that get me thinking, but I am just not sure. Thanks for your Pictures and please keep them coming :icon_sunny: Paul :coffee2:

Thanks for clarifying things for Rollatiger, AMorgan! And thanks again to all except Rollatiger, for the compliments and encouragement! :icon_thumleft:

Also, this particular creekbed is a matrix of clay with millions of shells embedded throughout. The creekbed is also pock-marked by numerous holes making it have a honeycomb-like look to it. The holes are often filled with sand, shell and gravel. Sometimes artifacts, too! ;D Definitely, absolutely, positively no sandstone in this creek system. That can only mean one thing. This stone was picked up somewhere else and brought to the location where it was found. I will be going back soon to investigate that area further. If I were a betting man, I would bet that I find more stone tools associated with this grinding table. Maybe not, but theres a good chance. There has to be a pestle or something in that general vicinity, unless it has been already been found and picked up. So, stay tuned.......

Sorry, naturally formed. And no.......self-proclaimed expertise, does not count.

Well that's one way to get started off on the right foot here at TN.

Don't know as how you might want to, but have you posted a bunch of your finds in the "collection" area of this site?
If you haven't, then I'd give it two or three thoughts before doing so. Big Uncle is trying to get involved in this area
of collecting, too.

Nice matete............

Shouldn't you be scaring small children under a bridge somewhere?

Looks like a few folks on here, indeed have sour grapes or something. Why? If you are that bent out of shape now, I'd hate to see you by the time creek walking season ends (four more months). I make no apologies for being good at what I do. You have to understand, The high success rate that my brother and I have is from years of hard, long days in the creek, with many of the trips not finding anything. Over the years we have gotten this down to a science. Good hunters make their own luck! My only intention by posting on this site, is to share a bit of the magic I feel when I do this wonderful thing that brings me great joy. I have no desire for any kind of notoriety, and certainly don't have to "stage" anything. That would be dishonorable. If you want to be the MAN, you got to beat the MAN first!! HA! Thanks to all my buddies on here that wish me good luck and give me encouragement!! -Creekwalker

Creekwalker, you are the best. I say this not only for the great finds that you keep posting, but also for the great attitude that you bring to this site. I appreciate that when someone questioned your find, you did not pout and call your detractor names. His comments were offensive, yet you did not even seem offended. Bravo! Your posts are consistently informative, extremely credible, and fascinating. I had no doubt your finds were legit even before AMorgan's expertise came forth. Keep walking those creeks and keep educating the rest of us with your posts! Steve

LOL!

Another sweet find... I'm another (primarily) metal-detectorist who is avidly following your posts, and learning something. It's getting amusing watching these people who like to stir the pot :)

Keep up the good work man!
