I don't usually post my finds here, but I do a lot of posting in the general discussion forum. I'm going to make an exception today for this coin!

Never found a coin with a Carson City mint mark in ten years of metal detecting here in Rhode Island, which makes sense. But today I broke the dry spell with an 1878 cc seated dime! Tough coin to find anywhere, with a mintage of only 200,000. Damaged copies are selling for $90 to $250 on eBay. Not going to sell it, though. Hopefully, there's more where this one came from. Definitely going back to the same spot tomorrow!

Big congrats to you !! That's a beauty with very nice detail with no visible damage. The Carson City mint mark puts a cherry on top. Rare coin to boot. I'm a fellow New Englander who spent many Summers & many hours hunting in Scituate Mass. Been detecting since the 1970's. Never found a CC coin anywhere. I can feel your joy !! Fantastic find !! Great coin !!!

Wow! That's a really special find. I'd be tucking it away also. Who knows what the value will be in 10 years. You would hope with the low mintage, they'll be more collectors coming along adding them to their collections and reducing the availability out of private hands. I once had a nice collection of coins I gathered, beginning in the 60s and 70s along with others that were handed down to me. During the 80s I'd get the coin price publications that came out each year and prices, just hadn't changed in years throughout that decade. I was transferred with a job from California where I just got married and we moved to Colorado. When we got here to Colorado new wife said let's see if we can buy a house, instead of renting. We found one in 1988 and gathered all we can, which included a total liquidation of this coin collection I'd pack around, and bought a house with our down payment. Overall the house has gone up quite a lot, so I didn't lose, but it pains me sometimes to think of that collection of coin and how the stagnant prices all went skyward after the internet reached the hands of dang near everyone on the planet with money to spend.

Congrats on a FANTASTIC find ! :occasion14:
Makes sense that the further East you go in the US - the less there would be.
I finally found my first Carson City coin last season - it only took me 14 years ! :BangHead:
