I don't usually post my finds here, but I do a lot of posting in the general discussion forum. I'm going to make an exception today for this coin!

Never found a coin with a Carson City mint mark in ten years of metal detecting here in Rhode Island, which makes sense. But today I broke the dry spell with an 1878 cc seated dime! Tough coin to find anywhere, with a mintage of only 200,000. Damaged copies are selling for $90 to $250 on eBay. Not going to sell it, though. Hopefully, there's more where this one came from. Definitely going back to the same spot tomorrow!

Hey Tim, good to see you posting (on this forum)! Gotta tell you, based on what I've read, I've been blessed as I've nabbed 8 CC's in 32 years, but NONE as rare as yours- that coin is a beauty and, I know you said you're not selling it, but it surely is worth a few hundred. My personal experience with slabbing found silvers is, inevitably they come back with a grade but always noted as scratched or environmental damage. Regardless, do whatever you want- that rarity is yours and you deserve it- Congrats amigo!

Holy cow, eight CC's? You're the man, Jeff! That's very impressive. Took me 10 years to find one, so I don't think I'll ever match your total.

I found same coin and its one of my lowest mintage silvers but it came from river so a little rough compared to yours. Congrats

Thanks! Very cool that you found the same coin on the East Coast as well! I wonder how many have survived over the years? I only see three on eBay right now, so it must be a scarce coin.
