I have been detecting a road tear out where the stuff under the road is late 1800s to early 1900's. I got an indian there, 1903, and a half penny or a two cent. Hard to say because it is smooth as Brad's butt. The ring is small and has a tiny hallmark which to the best I can tell is -> U <- or -> Ω <-. The size is US size 4. Any idea what the hallmark denotes?

Cool. Does anyone know of an online resource to get me in the ballpark? Utica, no matter what I typed comes up with NY and not much else except silver rings.

I've dug that same ring two times here in Denver. Once out of a drained lake and another time in front of an older home across the street from a school. Both very small child's rings. Both of mine are marked sterling and have the makers mark as well.
Grats on the nice digs and thanks for sharing.
