...with the help of our pottery hound (Land-Magnet) with his trustee 4 legged houndette. This site was a tip off from one of the farm mgrs. It wasn't even a maybe target on our list, looking back on google earth the only clue was a darker patch of soil (no crop marks). As the field had 3 inch high beans growing in it, we did the next best thing. The 1/2 acre copse & flatten game strip (once corn), these were 200 metres or so from the site, but I thought it had to be close enough for the odd find :icon_thumright: (although on some roman sites that means the difference of lots of coins to nothing)

4 hours (8 manhours) effort & we have just broken the 200 Roman Bronze coin count for this year.

Only our second complete Medieval Spur Rowel
Roman implement (at first I thought nail cleaner), but could be medical or :dontknow:
Very poor Roman Brooch fragment
7 Scrappies

Star find by me a roman coin not listed in Sears & rated as Scarce plus in good nick as well 8)
Licinius I AE Follis.
AD320s
IMP LICI-NIVS AVG, laureate head right
DN LICINI AVGVSTI around VOT (dot) XX
Mintmark: BSIS*

Great result for May & we have another confirmed site to hit after harvest :icon_thumright:

Thanks, but our roll won't start until Sep, keep tuned  This month & the next two are the leanest. We are just 1 Roman Bronze more than the same time last year but our Hammered count is down big time.

Another potentially good site, well found, and good luck in the future. PaulB.

That coin is lovely!

Funny, a similar few bits as SS yesterday :icon_thumleft:

This one was down to our 3rd team member (& maybe 4th with the dog), as its his tireless dog walking whilst site hunting that is bringing us on target.

The pot shards tell the story, it will be good ;D

Never been in a situation where Dad & I have trouble reeling off our Roman Sites. Its going to be a crazy harvest. Not enough hours in the day even when my only holidays are on the fields

Yeah, if that had been a nail cleaner, it would have been spooky.

Nice finds Cru, the Roman coin is in good condition :icon_thumright:

Even on the slow days you always seem to get at least one keeper. Even they add up over time.

so far thats just about true. What's more important is we now know exactly where to hunt after harvest. That was the biggest benefit of the day. It used to be easy to keep these maps in my head, now they are spilling out everywhere, so its a good job I have marked them on the OS map. X marks many spots :headbang:
