I WAS HUNTING WHERE THE BATTLE OF WYOMING TOOK PLACE AND I EVEN FOUND MY FIRST CIVIL WAR BULLET THERE BUT IN THE SAME HOLE DOWN ABOUT ANOTHER 4 INCHES I PULLED THIS OUT NOT SURE WHAT IT IS OR WAS USED FOR ALSO WOULD ANY ONE KNOW WHAT TYPE OF BULLET THIS IS. ANY HELP WILL BE WELCOME THANKS RICH

rifling marks on the bullet indicate it's not civil war era. my guess is that's somewhere around a .44 cal. Has some patina to it, but probably not older than maybe 120 years

The one piece in question looks like a figure 8 chain link.

The bullet appears to be an unfired 1870s/80s .44-40 bullet for Winchester Model-1873 Rifle or Marlin Rifle, manufactured by Winchester. Here's a photo of an original 1890s packet of them, except these are hollow-nose, and they have "reeding" or "knurling" in the bullet's body-grooves.

WOW THAT LOOKS LIKE IT THANKS SO MUCH. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK OUT THERE AND FIND SOME MORE THANKS AGAIN RICH

blow up the pic and you can see rifling marks from it having been fired. but fired or unfired wasn't the original question anyway. I'm just pointing out a detail
