So on my trip I found a giant dried up creek bed. In that creek bed, I found a conduit connecting it to another creek. Since I did not have a gold pan, I just took some dirt to pan at pan with a make shift pan. Well I didn't have high hopes because I was told Utah only has flour sized gold. They were wrong. I found some nice flakes about the size of a red pepper flake. image.webp

Don't you just love it when you follow your intuition.
Congrats

That would definitely get my attention. No doubt that you are going to return with a real pan and gear. Would love to know how that turns out! Congrats on the gold.

Looks like you should pan the hell out of that spot.

I would.

Oh I will! Planning on going twice a month to that area for business reasons so I'm definitely going to get real gear and drain the river of the gold.

Congrats, I hope you are just stopping in to tell us on the way to picking up the rest of your gear. You better get back out there.

Nothing sounds better than those two words. Found Gold. In my family one could get away with just about anything if they use those two words at the end of it. LOL

Have fun and come back AFTER you got it all and show us some more pics.

Yeah it was my first ever pan of gold so I just had to post it. Buying my real pan today and I'll be going back in a week or two.

Hunter 101,
i have plenty of pans and sniffer bottles that i give away. (And lots of mining equipment i'm too old to use) Like any other addict, i want everyone to share in my addiction -to prospecting and metal detecting, that is. Send me a PM and i'll send you a set of pans/sniffer.
Happy Hunting

Well that is really cool, your first ever pan. I remember my first pan of gold ever. Heck I was 27 years old, had tried it so many times before and never got a thing. Then some passer by one day on the creek, older fella stopped and informed me that I would never have any luck doing it that way. She showed me how, he messed around for about 30 minutes with my pan and there he had a nice picker. He showed it to me in the pan, then grilled me on questions about do I remember everything, then he dumped that picker out into the creek, handed me my pan and said good luck.

I was so determined to find that picker, never did but I got some really good pans that day, then pretty much since then have always corrected my self based on what he showed me. When I got my first pan I had no one to share it with until I got back to the barracks. Even then my room mate was like yeah so what.

So here you get to share your first gold with tons of folks, who love gold as much as you and will encourage your success. Now if you can get some pointers from the old times, then I would say that is worth its weight in gold, as they have been there many of times, done that, felt that, failed at it, succeeded at it and then did it all again many times over.

Thanks for sharing, I think it is pretty cool of you to share it with us. I hope you get back out there soon and find plenty more. Heck you should take up Wasatchau on that offer too, nothing wrong with having some gear that was in the hands of the experienced.

Nice.
Now you need to back and get more of that dirt.

Back in 2012 I decided to pan for gold. I panned, and panned, and panned and panned for weeks. I found everything BUT gold. I practically ruined my back for a while. My area isn't exactly known for gold but I'm told it's in all 50 states and figured I would at least give it a try.

Anyway, in 2014 I bought a metal detector and since then I have managed to find some gold from time to time without any pain. I would still like to find some the old fashioned way though...

Very nice find! Good luck on the gold hunts!

Sweet! I hope to do the same some day! Congratulations!

Old school teacher!

Cool! Gold panning looks like fun! Just imagine the fun those early prospectors had in 1848 and 49.
Gold everywhere it was like a never ending gold party! :treasurechest::thumbsup:
