Rd reflector I'm pretty sure. I've dug a few in the past. I think they were used on bends etc so when your head lights hit them you can follow the glowing

the thing is, everything from this pit is no newer than 1850s

It looks like the lid of a man's smoking pipe. I found something similar made of brass.
