Might be one of the earliest dated finds that I have seen posted here. There was a new member that posted in the Coins sub-forum where his specialty is large cents. It shouldn't be too far down the main page as his post was recently. He was offering his expertise for anyone looking for help in identifying varieties of large cents. Even though your find is defaced and the date is worn, there still might be enough die indicators that would allow for a knowledgeable numismatist to discern more information for you.

Found the link to the thread. The member's name is Marshall. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/coins/619864-early-date-large-cents.html

Very nice! My one box today gave me two 40% ers. I have never found anything that old in a roll.

Dang thats a sweet find

Somewhere, there may be someone who thinks he beat the system by passing off a penny for a half dollar. Hope he has more. Congrats!

Was this in a CWR or MWR? If the latter, it probably got to the coin sorting center by way of CWR since the bank coin machines reject large cents (Dozer reported finding one tossed, I think, in the trash can beside the reject bin last year).

CWR and I had the same thought: This person was trying to pass it off as a half dollar and cheat the roll.

Much better find than the British/colonies large cents I've found in rolls.

I got an 1808 East India trading Co trade penny (large British coin thing) in a MWR last year n figured a large cent being the same size could make it into a roll. They weigh approx a gram less than a half though so I was surprised. Was yours CWR? Impressive!

Right on, it was back in Nov-2018, found a 1845 large cent in the trash can next to the self serve coin machine, along with some other bent coins, washers, etc., was emptied out from the inner reject bin in the machine. Bank employees just grab the little bin & dump without checking the contents.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1575741955.939424.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1575742005.188983.webp

Amazing find man!

I got a 1810 Large Cent in a bag of halves once...similar condition to that find.
