Looks like the drill is broken, bummer. is the material of the drill kanawha black ? looks like it to me.

Yes, it is definitely broken. Most of the stuff I find is Kanawha Black.

I walked a lot of creeks, streams, and river sandbars in Missouri and western Il. Be sure you look on the downstream side of anything that blocks the flow of the current, artifacts are washed downstream from heavy rains and floods and get caught up in anything that blocks the flow of the current.
