I found this fossil while metal detecting in Luxembourg about 25 years ago .Any idea on what it is

Sorry, I actually have no idea, that is way out of my realm. The ones that I have seen in good condition, the owners polish them using rock polishing kits.

Honestly, you might get a buck or two at a garage sale. Fossil oysters are beyond common and honestly not very iconic/sought out for. My advice is to keep it on your desk or coffee table as a cool discussion piece.

This is true. Some places they are so abundant they ate crushed as part of cement compound material.

I know i'm late but as a metal detectorist who lives in Luxembourg I find these quite regularly.
They are an extinct oyster species commonly called the devil's toenail.
They went extinct around 34 million years ago and started to appear in the triassic period.
