it doesn't seem to ever been attach to anything, no welds or solder spots anywhere on it, the one end looks to be hammered.

its a handmade fishing hook. flattened end has hole for leader line, since it is barbless the maker added the extra curve to the hooked end.

It looks like a particular type of fishing hook that I have seen. The flattened out part is the shank. The one I saw had a snailed knot that was secured onto the shank, below the flat area. And then the knot was tightened up. The flattened out part keeps the knot from slipping off. The ones that I saw didn’t have a barb either, and much smaller, the tip must have gotten bent into that curl somehow.

Looks like a real old... circle hook that used to have a snelled knot on it. :icon_scratch:

could be a tool used to thread bait onto a hook so it wont come off easy for ocean fishing
