Found on undeveloped property 5" down. Been using WD 40 and it's showing silver underneath. It's pretty heavy.

I think I can see a grain, which would make it wrought iron, and very old, but I have no idea what it might have been used for.

Looks like a slug. It's the guts to an old cloths iron. The gate in the photo below would raise,
and your heated piece would fit inside.
