I found this in the woods in Maine. Land used to be logged and possibly farmed. Any ideas?

Looks like an old wagon/cart axle.

I first thought it was an old telegraph or electrical insulator mount...

then changed my mind to a road peg for a stone age Harley...

I"ve seen these same pieces before, and while I'm not sure if it's the right use, they were driven into lengths of round stock them the round end was strapped to a frame and it was used as a roller to load and unload items. If farming and logging were present in the area this might have been the way it was used. Just my guess.

I believe you have id'd it. This one has a groove in it like the one in the picture. It is about 16 inches long from a guess. I will measure it tomorrow. This is pretty cool!!
