found my first button today!

Well today was the day! After digging for about an hour or so and only finding nails, Out popped the first button of the day and my first button ever! As for the age, I would say that it might’ve been made between 1860 and 1900 but I’m not sure. If anyone knows what kind of button this is, please let me know.

It looks like there could be some letters on the back. I would carefully see if you could use a toothpick and clean the back then post some pics so that you might be able to make a positive ID.

Just cleaned off the back a bit more and it does look like there are some words on the back of it but they’re very hard to make out.

Thanks and what does “Extra Fine” mean and with that can determine how old it is?

Extra fine is just part of a quality mark that states how good the gilding was. Its a civvy button from the mid-late 19th C.

Most likely made in the UK, no way of working out which button maker. (Unless cleaning it turns up something unexpected)
