Overall been very frustrated lately. Haven't found much but junk and a lot of pennies, and a few dimes.
So Sunday the park was full of people. I couldn't detect where the old truant school was, so i headed into the woods. Found an interesting bit of Depression era history.
I found my first wheat in the woods. Then I found something interesting. Some old broken bottles, and old cheap spoon, and some objects (trash most likely) trapped inside melted glass.
Interesting. So I knew there were fires there once, but why? Turns out there was a food dispersal center near there during the depression. People would burn fires, waiting for the center to open. They would congregate there, cook, drink, and eat. Looks like I stumbled onto one of the camp sites. Of course, you can't expect to find much of value there, but I did find it very interesting to know I had found what to me was a very interesting piece of history. Somehow I doubt the archaeologists would find it very interesting.
Still, waiting on the good finds (sigh). Can't wait until my family can get up to hunt where I have been planning an excursion for some time! Have definitely gotten to know my detector a bit better. I can pinpoint a 1-2" coin so well that I can dig a 2" diameter plug and get it!
