Found off coast of Maine

Wondering about this piece of metal. It is VERY heavy. If I scrape the pointed end, it is sparkly, gold-colored, maybe brass? It looks sharpened at one end, and has a smooth interesting shape at the other end. It fits perfectly in the pieces of wood (also shown). Any thoughts about what it may be? Thanks!

I'm thinking it's a zinc anode bar to protect against corrosion of (amoung other things) aluminum hulled vessels; but maybe not.

Maybe it's a Belay Pin from a schooner

Maybe a sounding bar. They would throw it in the water in front of the ship then measure how much line ran out when it was along side (mid beam), the sounder would then call the depth out to the helmsman. The sounding term "Mark Twain" meant two fathoms of water or twelve feet.
