FOUND Old Brass or Bronze Relic In Churchyard

Can you tell me what it was originally?

Here's my story for today:

I have permission to hunt an old churchyard that dates back to 1897. I dug this old piece of brass or bronze and when I got home I was trying to figure out what I would do with it.

Then I remembered that as you step inside the building there's this water cooler with a broken cup dispenser. The people there say they always have trouble keeping a working dispenser.

So, I got some of their cups and they fit this relic perfectly.

So, I cleaned the thing up and now it's in holy service

The people love me and rightly so

Nice of you to restore the holder. There's probably more pleasure in returning in working order than to keep it.

I've yet to find anything worth while. Just a newbie with great expectations.

Nice cup holder, wonder who got mad and threw it out? Looks old but cleaned up really nice. That's a good jesture and worth a free pass to detect.

Thanks all. I had fun doing this but now I need to get back out there and hunt! The place is a coin goldmine. I've hunted it before (so have many others) and thought it was totally cleaned out but now with my new machine it's like nobody ever touched it.

Besides the relic I found 10 wheat cents and and bunch of newer coins.

Well, I need to get back out and I'll post everything tonight. Hope I hit silver.

To me it looks like a brass ring used on top of post in which a round piece of wood railing and or round medal goes through it. Could go on the porch railing or along a wall or near stairs. That is just my guess. It did clean up very well though.

Hm mmm nice story and good job. The item looks like an old oar holder off a smatt row boat, but don't know how it would have got there. just a thought. Also great job on thinking of a practical use for it. Thanks for sharing and for putting our hobby in a good light to others...HH

It Looks like one of those attachments that a velvet rope would go through...like in front of a altar or like they use in the opera houses.....Nice Find ...Nicer use for it!

Ive found a couple of the same whatsits as youre cup holder.An old timer told me they were reign guides off of a horse drawn impliment/wagon/sliegh H.H....Joe

Neat find! I think it is a reign guide for a horse carriage, have found a few here in Germany. HH, Mike

Thanks to everyone for you help. Now I do tend to think it is a reign guide. When I dug it I had no idea what it was.

You folks sure are smart!

I know this may sound wierd but in a way I'd rather find this type of thing than SOME types of old coins.
