I was detecting the back yard of this seminary that was built in 1861 and closed in 1922.
Over the years I have taken many nice old coins from there, including a G.A.R. veterans medal.
Today I got a rather wierd signal. The depth meter indicated that it was quite deep and wouldn't lock on. I decided to dig it anyway because it sounded deep.
After digging down about 8", out came this rusty clasp from an old coin purse. I rechecked the hole with the detecter and the signal became very loud. I reached in and pulled a small hand full of coins.

At first they looked like old worn silver, but they were too light. After a closer look I realized that they were all stinking play money.
The Barber dime was placed there for size reference.
