Found old lock 1800s???

. I dug this lock last year and would like help on when made and how to clean and save. On the back side is a brass button with no writing. The button about the size of a dime.

not really sure if there is a real way to clean that lock since its just rust, I would just oil it! someone on here will know what oil is best to use.

Here's one in a bit better shape, for the sake of showing that there doesn't seem to be other marks than "W Mfg Co": Antique Vintage Padlock W Mfg. Co. Brass Steel NR! (11/19/2006)
Two possibilities on the W so far seem to be Waltham or maybe Whipple (maker of door hardware, late 1800's)

Anyone know what type of oil I should use to stop this got rusting more.
