I found this celt on the farm of my wife's godfather in the summer of 1987. It had cow pie splatter on it when I picked it up! Ronny's farm bordered the Oswegatchie river in upstate NY and had been in the family since colonial times. Sadly, Ronny passed from cancer a short time after meeting him. I was told a well traveled path following the river ran through their farm and they had frequent visits from the local Indians.

This is an old typeset drawer I mounted on the wall to display a variety of items I've collected over the years. The celt in the top lefthand corner was given to me by Ronny. Ronny told me he found it sitting on a cross member in the barn when he was a kid.

Hi Rook, it is made of pine, just very old and has taken a dark patina with age.

Hi Quito, to be sure we're talking about the same item, I think you're referring to the item right below the marbles? If so then it's made of some unknown wood from Hawaii. I cut the limb and carved the turtle when I was a kid.
