I'm just going to guess but it looks like a pulley or a block and tackle.

Sent from my iPod touch using TreasureNet

I found one like this in a field that a civil war camp was at.Looks just like it without the board .It is some type of pulley block for???????????vanzutphen

I agree with RelicDude. It even has the holes where it was bolted.

I found the Spike's nearby last year.
But i found the board this year

I can see that the wood is oak (big rays).

If cleaned up right, that could make a nice wall display. Cool find!!

Looks like off a small sail boat, fixed inboard to adjust jib.

It could be a standing part of rigging, but more likely a fairlead for a runner aboard a larger sailboat or sailing ship. Old, I'd say the better of 80 years or more

I agree with the pully system...Top it off ..It is sealed with Lead...See if i can send a pic of the back on this page<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1074920"/><img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1074921"/>

Or if it was also found on an inland battlefield, it could have been used to maneuver cannon? I'm sure cannon often came on and off of ships? The only problem I had with my original assessment was the short board for which it was attached, which may have been perfect for mounting to a cannon's carriage.
