I was so excited after finding my walking liberty half sunday that i have been reading in the forum about my mxt wanting to learn more....I learned a little about hunting in the relic mode and went out with a pocket full of coins to practice...I practiced with each coin seeing what it read on my mxt then i started hitting my yard....sure enough, found a 1934 wheat, a little gold band of some sort and then my mxt kept reading 83 buckle and it was deeper than usual...out popped a 1935 washington quarter...Its nicked up but i love it....I have been over my yard a hundred times......My house was built in 1902 and i have found a barber quarter, standing liberty quarter,3 mercury dimes, 2 rosies, 2 indian heads and a bunch of wheats and now thanks to the forum i have a washington quarter.....I am not sure what the little gold band is?????? its paper thin.....Good luck to everyone on your next hunt.......Letshuntnow..

Hello, all three read 9 or 10 inches deep on my mxt....most of the time it reads 4 to 5 inches deep in coin and jewelry but in the relic mode it said it was deeper and it was...i have noticed the depth is always a little off....if it reads 10 inches deep its about 7.....I am going to go back to a few places i have hunted where i found silver and try it in the relic mode....I just cant get enough of this....I love it....................

You're doing very well

Just for fun, re-hunt the same areas of your yard from a perpendicular direction.
(If your first hunt was North-South, your second hunt will be East-West).

Good luck!

great hunt!!!!!!!!!!! i always go with the clean out type hunts.. just dig and dig and dig till i get it all.. MR TUFF

Excellent suggestion!

And after that, try the same thing at 22.5 degree angles. The deeper you search, the smaller the actual amount of ground you cover. If you don't overlap your sweeps by 50%, you will be missing the deeper signals. And even then, you still may miss some of them.

Try waiting until the ground is very wet, too. I've noticed I always get better depth and better targets right after the grass has frozen, and thaws out the next day or two.

BTW, GREAT finds! You're learning just the right way to search.

Nice finds :icon_thumleft: the DFX will do the same thing in Relic mode it says 7 or 8 inches deep but it,s actually 5 or 6 deep Good hunt Dd60
