First day of Thanksgiving Break so I went out and played a bit. I uncovered a few late 1800s/early 1900s relics as can be seen in the first photo. Starting at the top and going clockwise, I found a brass spur, a copper ornate spoon, a "jeweled" brass miniature picture frame, and finally, either a shoe or belt buckle.
Some notes about 2 of the items:
- The spur was originally fitted with a small rotating rowel (the star wheel) but it is now completely gone – only the corroded steel axle pin and a lump of rust remain.
- The "jeweled" (really glass beads) picture frame is missing 2 of its' blue beads and the easel on the back, unfortunately. It's super tiny (1.5" x 1.25"). As I was researching this find, I came across an auction site selling items that once belonged to the late American author and poet, Jack Kerouac (most famous for his novel, "On the Road" and one of my favorites in my late teens). Anyway, one of the items that was auctioned was a photo of his older brother, Gerard, in the exact same kind of frame I found today! Kind of a cool connection! Gerard Kerouac framed photo
