Found three of these at an estate sale and no one can tell me what they are - someone suggested ashtrays but I don't think so.
It appears to be a mouse or other type of rodent under a leaf. Made of brass and heavy for its size. The length of the leaf is about 3 1/2" long, the animal is about 2" long, and the height of both is about 2 1/2". Has anyone ever seen anything like this or know what they might be? Thanks!

Nice , Could be a candy or nut dish ! but I don't normally associate copper or brass alloys with food products - curious ? though lacking
the cradle for cigarette or cigar , I don't see any reason to exclude ash tray here .

Looks like a hedge hog carrying a leaf, maybe an incense holder? Not sure.
Congrats!

Hedgehog candy dish maybe? Hedgehog in any case, and that leaf looks pretty small and shallow for much of anything other than hard candies.

I agree on the hedgehog and probably a candy dish as well.

I would definitely say ashtray. If you look up brass leaf ashtrays they have a similar look minus the hedgehog although it could be advertised as a candy dish.

What a cool and unusual piece. I would think it's too small to be a candy dish. :dontknow:

Thanks for everyone's help and it is very small for a candy dish - might hold 3 Hershey's Kisses (At the most!) - I like the incense answer - hadn't thought about that. I thought maybe just to crush out cigarette but there on no ashes or sign that they might have been used for that - again there are three of them. As for the animal - I instantly thought hedgehog too by snot is really short for that and no sign of a tail so that doesn't help. I found a few similar animals in a Google search for brass mouse. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated! I just found this site yesterday while trying to figure out what these things are and I'm so glad I joined! Look forward to sharing a few more treasures I've come across!
