Got out for a couple of hunts this weekend for about 6 hours total . Hunted a school that dates back to the late 50's . It's been hit hard over the years so I was hoping for at least one silver :icon_thumright:. No silver or gold but I did find some keepers . The first hunt I found two wheat pennies right next to each other both at 7 inches , 1953S and 1956D . Managed to find two rings, both just junkers :BangHead: . I favorite find was from today:hello2: . I had a +93 at 4 inches and out popped a big piece of clad , The King of Clad :laughing7:. It was a 1973 Ike dollar :icon_thumright: . I have found now 12 of them over the past 20 years and this is the first in about 2 years. The hardest clad coin to find :icon_thumright:. Total clad found over the two hunts was $15.43 .

Glenn,

I've found only one "BIG IKE". It was on my 40th anniversary June 3rd 2012. I was hunting at Julia Pfeiffer State Beach in Big Sur.
Didn't really know what I had at first. Turned out to be a 1972 IKE......Go Figure! :) It's one of my old post........

What is a "2012 IKE"?

What is a "2012 IKE"?

It's a US Dollar Coin...issued between 1971-1978, Better known as an Eisenhower or "Ike for short" dollar coin.

BTW I was at my bank last Friday & the teller saved me a customers deposit of (10) Bicentennial Eisenhower dollars 1976. That was the year my son was born:happysmiley:

That's a great day out! Still Hot on the Rings too!!

One Ike for me in 9 years of hunting the water, and it was this year. Doubt if I'll ever find another.

Right, I know what an IKE is and since they were minted 1971-78 how could it be dated "2012" (i.e., "2012 IKE" as stated in your post). That was my point. I must be missing something. Thanks.

You're absolutely right...I meant to say a "1972 IKE". Allow me to edit :)

OK - Now I get it, 40 year find. That makes sense. Thanks. And congrats to the OP on his IKE and other finds. Found my first "Golden Dollar" (a 2001 Sacagawea) at the beach a few weeks ago.
