Perhaps the lid to an aluminum pot with the handle either broken off or rotted away as a wooden one may have done.

Added: It seems to have a relatively large lip, so maybe a teapot?

coffee pot lid.Pretty much the same as nhbenz said.

I'll second that, we always kept one on our wood stove when I was a kid just to keep a little humidity in the air.

Thanks, guys for the ID. So I can assume the coffee pot lid is from the latter part of the settlement which was 1920s and 1930s?
