Found this mystery object on a colonial / Civil War site, same material as a Colonial Tombac button. 2 inches long x 1 1/2 inches wide. Any ideas?

I just realized what you read.
Writing a measurement 1 1/2 is weird looking.
I've corrected mine to 1.5" just for that reason.
