Found this Rock on the Beach,highly magnetic,heavy,can scratch glass,....

I would get that tested by a jeweler just in case.glacial morains exist in your area and could have deposited dang near anything.

I was thinking that as well but it can not be broken and meteorites have a center that is much different from the outside. I put a 9 gauge magnet on a string and it immediately swung to the rock. This is all so fascinating.

Hehe that is what I thought it is very odd and there is something shiny deep in it. If it is a peanut it is very old!

Search the web. There are sites that walk you through the metiorite ID process. There are also sites that specificly ID slag material.

We all want to find space rocks, but imho slag is uber cool! Types of slag are identifiable. Each represents a different manufacturing process within a historical period. A rare type, can be valuable to the right person.

My attachment is a recent slag find. I found it with a metal detector. It's non magnetic with a flow pattern. Its a glass material, similar to obsidian. It looks exotic, but homemade!

I'm on my droid right now. My paste feature is limited. Go to Google...type in 'how to identify slag'. Near the top, there should be a PDF from a metallurgy site. (nc.PDF??) Very informative! Your best information will come from geological sites and metallurgy sites. Slag has a story...and its kinda cool!
