Found today at 1800s homesite

It is copper and has an S with an arrow through it. The homesite we were on dates back pre Civil War. Anyone have a clue as to what it may be? Also, I think the other photo is a button. It looked like it had a cross on it before it was cleaned up.

I've no idea what the round copper disc is.

Could you refocus on the copper round item. It shows your fingerprints with crystal clear clarity but the round item itself is out of focus. Also a picture of the reverse.

Is that a ‘G’ just below the 9 o’clock position?

Also I think I see a number 48 scratched into the 6 o'clock position.

I see the G, but I cannot make out any numbers when I enlarge the pic. I don't have the piece because I left it with the owner of the land. When I go back, I will get more pictures (including the back). You can see it better in this enlarged picture. Any ideas on what it may be?
