This cost me $36.87 and I just said why the hell not :dontknow: It's got to be worth more then that to someone?. I just pulled it from the truck and put a big garden sized trash bag over it and hid it in the garage, so my wife doesn't see it and give me that look :icon_scratch: In case you wonder it is a real Buffalo head mount. Please be easy on me animal lovers I am one of of those also and it was not I who ended it's life. :sadsmiley: Most likely it came from a Buffalo meat producer, The horns are replicas, as are the glass eyes.

My wife would have my head on the wall, if I bought that :laughing7:--]

Wow... sheesh...
better than killing one...
You can hang that one on your wall and tell your buddies... "yeah I got that one roaming the Goodwill". :P

Actually ... you should find a pair of furry wings... attach to the wall behind head...
Then you can say... " ever seen where buffalo wings come from ? " then point. :P

Those first 2 ebay links are the same seller and the plastic horns look the same as the one I have also. I'm thinking these Buffalo meat producers sell the skulls with horns and mount the heads with these plastic horn to get more then just the meat value out of these beast. It's not a first class taxidermy job as they filled it with expanding foam. I didn't look it up when first found it, because I kind of knew the 36 bucks was a heck of a price. It's not as heavy as you'd expect either. I will be selling it for sure. Also I know of some pawn shops up in cowboy country I'm sure would love to take this on trade. They deal in guns and sporting gears as that's what the market demands in those areas. The signed and high end jewelry is often price very well, because no one in those ares care for that stuff. They want boats, ATV's, firearms and head mounts to decorate their homes.

These were generally mounted during the old buffalo hunters days after the civil war to about 1880 or so. Are you sure the horns are replica? I think that bedraggled appearance is because it's very old. You may have something a lot more valuable than $36. Of course, I may be wrong, but mounts of any kind go for big money in an antique store. It would have had glass eyes when mounted and the replica horns could have been used because of damage or selling of the originals.

I think you did great! I would have bought that in a heartbeat! Here I would take it to a gun store or smaller family owned sporting goods store and sell it or make a trade. Good Luck!

It's filled with polyurethane foam a fairly modern product. I sell that stuff to the mines for sealing bulkheads and you can also buy it in small cans to seal around the home. The horns are plastic and pretty cheesey looking at that. I'd put this mount done within the last 15 to 20 years, but I could be wrong. It does need a little touching up in areas to be most presentable. I'm sure I could make at least $180.00 or more on it. Because of the size and weight I'll most likely use it to trade up on something worth even more. That's something I'll do to avoid the hassle of online dealing with such a large item. An antique shop is a good place to to look for that trade item. I'm sure I'll see something they'll want a $100. to $150. or more that I think would sell for more online and I could get that item for for an even swap. I've made some good profits trading up on finds.

great buy either way to flip or keep!

It has a lot of wear. Maybe the foam was to keep it from falling apart. Might also explain the fake horns. Damage over time. Why not take it to a taxidermist and ask?

That's what I was thinking. I know a fella in Leadville who's a taxidermist.
