Found two IH's today

I found two IH's today but they are really green and very hard to see the dates. I can make 1 out and it is a 1964 and the other I believe is a 1889. Could someone tell me how to clean these up so I can read them better. I ave try soaking them in vinegar and salt and vinegar and baking soda. Is there a better way. Plus I found a 1931 merc. I will have them soaking more today while I am at work and hope I can post some pics of them later tonight......Matt

1864?

I use the peroxide soak method. works like a charm.

Nice finds

Re: Found two IH's today

Congratulations on the nice digs... Vinegar works the best on pennies... If they are really bad, it can take a few days of soaking to get that stuff off. But eventually it will come off. Check them often though if you want to leave some of the patina on. Carefully pat them with a soft cloth to see how much gunk is still on them. If you don't check them often, they could get really shiny, which doesn't look very good in my opinion.
