Hey Treasurenetters!

It was 30some degrees in Baltimore today and a little windy but I dressed for the weather and ended up shooting alot of video because the finds kept coming. This was my fourth consecutive hunt at this city park with at least one Indian Head cent and today I dug four of the tribe; thus the title of this post "Four on the Fourth". Hunt was Friday, December 9th!

First target dug was a 1930 wheat, so a good start. Yes, I dug a number of square nails, but there were many good targets today. Broke the century barrier with an 1893 IHC. All of these targets came from searching either side of the slate walkway; though I covered ground that I'd been over times before, new coins emerged.

The main walkway has sub-surface slate that extends about two feet either side of the main path. It was over the sub-surface area that I got an 83 VDI and figured it would be a quarter but it turned out to be the silver ring!

During the course of searching signals there were the incidental finds of pottery pieces and a large swirled marble.

A curious find is what looks like a drawer pull, but I don't think that's what it is. There is raised relief detail on the stem. Any ideas?

So, my first cold hunt of the winter season, but the finds were "hot" and taking my gloves off to record the digs was welcome.

Cold is a under statement. Like the ring MD!

Great finds my friend those are nice Indians look to be in good shape nice other finds to looks like you found a great hunt spot I also go out if the ground isn't frozen solid I dress warm and never feel cold its fun and no one else around Hope to see lots more cool finds from ya stay warm Thanks for the post!!!!!!

Agreed! I was willing to "test the waters" and found it tolerable, of course it helped finding stuff.

Thanks Tommy! Great to be able to do this year round here. Sometimes in February we'll have frozen ground for several weeks and that puts a quash on diggin', but we're good now and I think I may get out on Tuesday.

You braved the cold and it payed off. That silver ring is sweet. Nice finds! :icon_thumright:

Thx Nick! I've usually not detected over the sub-surface slate. Most of the time I just put the shovel in until I don't hit it and then work the free soil beyond it. Glad I swung over it today!

Never quite as cold when you are finding good stuff. Congrats on some more nice finds

Baltimore parks were giving it up yesterday, nice finds McDig

Nice finds --on the drawyer knob I was doing a 1840s house and dug this it looks very close to what u dug thought you would enjoy seeing it's similarities IMG_0575.webpIMG_0574.webpIMG_0567.webp

Thx treblehunter! This makes me a believer in the soil moisture factor, really seems to make a difference in hearing targets.

Thanks Whatdayagot! I appreciate you posting this and I am leaning toward a sort of drawer pull. Stem on mine is hollow.

Nice finds again McCdig. I like that ring. It has been 19 to 25 degrees here now for about 4 days in a row, but I will be going out in the morning. Time to switch gears to the wooded areas where the ground hasnt yet frozen because of the heavy leaf cover.

Yep, in this area, as long as ole man winter doesn't freeze the ground solid. Just over dress for the cold and have at it, just remember to not make so many layers on your arms so that you can't bend your elbows! LOL

I'll continue to sneak out until I'm physically prevented from doing so! :)

Nice job!

Very nice hunt,, congrats on keeping the Indian Head Penny Streak going. That ring is sweet. It's going to hit 45 degrees on Tuesday. Yep, I'll be swinging the coil.

Looks to me like your knob-like find might be from a tobacco jar lid.

Thx Trezurehunter! That's cold my friend. Best of luck in the woods!

Thanks CAgem! You may be right. I'm not familiar with tobacco jars, but the piece seems old enough.

Thx ATW! Good luck on Tuesday, it may be the best of the next 7. If I get out it will back to the same park. We'll see if number six brings me another injun.

Thanks Whadifind! I'm with you. I like the transition to the cold. It presents a challenge and makes the finds that much more satisfying.
