1 7/8 by 7/8 serrated bolen bevel found by me in Hillsborough County Florida at a dig site about 3 feet deep in a ancient fire pit. I found this and a smaller Hardee in the same hole and about the same depth. The Hardee was found opposite side.I was going to save this for a Sunday artifact post but while I was dusting some of my frames off I had to take it out and hold it. This is one of only 3 Bolens I found in Florida. I have found numerous Bolens in Alabama and Georgia, even a few serrated ones but none to this extreme. This was soaked many years ago in mineral oil which brought out the colors dramatically,* unsoaked it is extremely dry and has what looks like a little fire pop damage on the base towards the bottom. I figured I would share this with you guys, opinions are more than welcome.

I found some Bolens in the Tallahassee area in the 80's but none were serrated. That's a nice one!

That is freaky. I've seen plenty that were serrated, but not in that manner. That's more like what you see on many Tallahassee points. Have to wonder if it was picked up by a later culture and reused. Really neat and great looking point.

Nice One!

Can you imagine that halfted and the user says '' Okay, get ready, we're going to do some amputation now." Wowzers!

I was wondering the same thing Sand.

Wow! Thats a beauty, that mineral oil sure makes the colors pop. Love those serrations too.

Another thing about the serrations that look Tallyish is the way they stopped short of the barbs. Did you take any pictures of it before you oiled it or do you remember any difference in the patina on the serrations compared to the rest of the point?

The patina looked the same, from what I remember.

That's a beauty!

Nice Snaggletooth!!!
