Fridays four NF String boxes of halves

Well, my skunk streak was at 10 boxes in a row,....now it's 14!!
I weigh my rolls and only open ones that weigh 225.5g or more. Some rolls weighed
as much as 226.0g......no silver!! Weights range from 224.7 to 226.0g.....but mostly are between 225.2 to 225.5. Cutting my order to 2 boxes next week. Also doing a box of nickels and two boxes of cents to give me some keepers!!

I get these same boxes and my streak is at 47 skunks in a row. All my boxes are now stamped with dates now and the four I picked up yesterday had the date of Feb. 4th, 2011. This was my last week for halves and am now ordering dimes. With dimes, I usually average 1 per box and sometimes get 3 or 4 though certainly get the occasional skunk. 47 skunks on halves was just a few too many for me.

Good luck to you if you decide to keep getting the halves - I will try them again later in future but for now, it appears my area is dried up like yours. Prior to my skunk streak I was doing well with halves and was rarely getting skunked at all and getting some boxes with 20+ in them.

Let's see the gas is $3/gal and your car's mileage is 30mile/gal, then you have to pay $12 per trip. HH

That's only happened to me once.. I've never gotten any keepers with roll weight of 224.9 g

If I did, there'd had to be another coin in the roll missing or another coin with a hole in it.

What about a really worn walker or barber? Not sure how much that would throw you off.

That's what I was wondering. If you have a bunch of well worn halves, it is going to weigh light I would guess.

Nope.. not true.. the one Barber I've ever found is well worn in AG-03 condition and the roll that had it weighed 225.9 grams.. the lowest roll weight where a 90%er would in would be 225.9 grams based on my experience.

Weighing rolls seems like a bad idea. Seems lazy. Also the thrill of opening up a roll not knowing what is in it then seeing that white rim is priceless. Knowing that something that is in the roll before opening it up seems like cheating and the thrill is gone. I would stop it. Just my opinion. I've gone through dry spell myself but I have always gone though every roll. To me whats the point of doing this hobby if you have an idea whats in the roll before you open it up. Unfun.

I bought a scale and thought I was only going open the rolls that had nice weights. I opened the heavier ones first and put the lighter ones to the side.. Then found some 40%ers in the lighter ones (i.e. 225 range).. If a coin has a hole in it, that will make the roll look like it is a skunk - I believe there are even some of the 90's that are a bit lighter/skinner? I could be wrong, but there are definitely some halves that are lighter and can throw it off.

Please don't think I'm being rude. I just wonder how many you may have missed by just weighing the rolls. Okay...I'll shut up now and take "Riley" for a walk.

I weigh my rolls always at first. I like to get the 90%ers right away. It will also tell you if it's a good box. I open all rolls with 225.0 g and above. Only a couple in every box are below 225.0 g in weight. I would like to speed up the process of CRHing as much as I can. If the box seems like a good box, then I will open rolls 224.8 g and above.

However, I have been using it some CWI boxes that have been short so I use it to filter the 21 coin rolls from the 19 coin rolls and see how short the box is.

I will have to disagree with you about weighing Christmas presents. Everyone weighs and processes what may or may not be in the present by using their fingers. I can pickup a gift and know if it might be socks or not. It does not take the joy out of the gift and it is fun when you can guess what is in the present before you see it.
