Somewhere in my unpacked boxes of maps and whatnots, I have a map, (had, might have got lost), in which I had all the forts marked along the Allegheny River. There were a lot more than I would have actually guessed. Seems there was a fort of some sort every few miles going up river from Pittsburgh.

Most sites today were comercially developed because the fort locations were strategic to the river, and obviously, became just so for businesses and houses.
