Frozen Ground

Newbie here. How do you folks handle frozen ground? Last year I detected before snowfall and put little flags on hot spots and went back in the spring. Does anyone try to cut frozen ground or just give up in winter?

I Lose a little bit of my mind not being able to detect every winter because the ground freezes so deep here. I like the flag idea though.

How do you stick the flags in the frozen ground? I take the frozen ground months (normally mid Jan thru early Mar) to clean my keepercoins using toothpicks and to research for more sites. I also perform a detailed cleaning and store my gear (batteries removed).

Now that the days have gotten so short, I have started CRH. I can still MD on the one day I have off per week, but I need some sort of fix for my addiction. I am currently searching CW dimes that my bank had a bunch of. 3 Rosies in 2 boxes. Nothing exciting, but it feeds the need.

I do an internet search on popular sledding areas near me. I try and hit the slopes after eeach fresh snowfall before the “goodies” have a chance to melt down thru the snow and/or ice.

I live in Michigan and I like winter hunting when its above 35 usually the ground isn't too bad Ive found that the woods are a great place to go because the leaves keep the ground thawed out!!!If you do go bring two digging tools just in case Ive found once you break the surface first inch or so digging is easy. Plus less people around in the winter, Good luck Tommy

Good topic! I live in VA so I don't need to worry about frozen ground much, but my mother bought a new house last year and I just realized it was built in 1860, has a dirt basement floor and a bit of land too...But its in Vermont...going up for Christmas and hoping to detect some gifts.
