I don't know if its me or my detector, but I'm getting frustrated!

Went to a friends house today that is over 100 years old and my machine just doesnt seem right.
I have the BH Discovery 3000 from Radio Shack. On the plus side today I think I got the ground balance to work and the pin pointer seemed to be ok. I did find that every once in a while everything buzzed with the pin pointer but if I wen tback to detect mode then back to pin point it seemed to work????

Now his whole back yard was buzzing with stuff apparantly and the the whole yard seemed to ring at about 199???? Very strange. I set the disc to no iron and it still seemed to ring everywhere, but was better. I turned the sensitivity to almost all the way down and it cleaned it up a little more. But still had ALOT of hits comming in at 199. I was digging everything that wasnt 199 and only found junk. I even found a big iron chunk from an old sewer drain with iron discrimination set. Is this normal. I re-checked the whole and the plug and nothing, just the old iron pipe. Should have skipped it I would think. Rang in as nickel/pull tab. Moved out farther back past the tree lines to just an open field and I was not getting all the bogus signals of 199, so we stayed out that way a little bit. dug all the signals that were showing dimes/quarters and they were pretty much junk also. Old tube of some sort, kind of like old toothpast, or cream. Found a bunch of aluminum can pieces. A piece that looked like a wire coat hanger. Piece of aluminum pipe of some sort.

Is it me? Any help would be appreciated.

welcome to the hobby it doesnt get better.........................

LOL...No really your just hunting in an area thats full of junk. You more than likely getting hits from bits n pieces of aluminiun and beer cans and nails.Try another place like a park or a beach. You will find junk there also but at least you have a better chance to finds coins or other goodies. For a beginner your just looking in the wrong places to learn. Good luck.

i had the 3300 and it was good for the 199, which is usually rusty iron, your best bet would be to run the 4" coil, all that iron can mask good targets next to the iron

eny rusty iron circle, washer, pipe, lid, wirer, will give you a good reading. It stups them all.try to circle the spot while you sweep do a compleat 360 and then some. liftloop
