I really wanted to go out Sunday morning but had to be back early for another commitment.
So I went over to one of the High Schools under the bleachers to see if anyone dropped anything.

though I was hoping for a diamond ring I found:
13 pennies, 2 dimes and 1 quarter! Plus a single earring.
(The shotgun shell and handle thingy was in my bag from the other day in the woods.)

I can't understand why some pennies look like someone took a bite out of them!
It has given me a new idea for searching after a game or week of phys ed classes!

I have an answer for the cents. The are made of zinc and zinc rots quickly in the ground, even faster in salt water.

Thanks! I guess that means some of those pennies are not from this weekend's game! :laughing7:

Some of them were so corroded I couldn't clean the clay off them, as if it were eating into the coin. Bu maybe that was just the zinc's rotting process.

Nice job on the recoveries! :occasion14:

I saw your title and thought to myself "oh boy"!

Then I saw the dirty zincolns and thought to myself "oh no"!

Ain't it funny how life goes?

You at least got out,not me, Yes the pennies from mid 1982 through present day are all zinc with a coating of copper.

My dad was a high school basketball coach. I would go under the bleachers after every game. Mostly change, occasionally a dollar bill or a watch. I would then go straight to the vending machines and buy a Hoho or Twinkee. I guess I had the bug pretty early on. Congrats on your finds.
