We lucked in again. The farmer decided to deep plough an area of growing Wheat to make a bird game strip, as luck would have it, right on a Roman Site (Copse Field). We tried it today but it was an ankle breaker, so will re-do when its drilled with maize. We did manage 9 scrappies & Fibula though!
We then moved to an area of failed beans (Crow damage), they have just re-drilled some spring beans, & rolled it flat. This area was some way outside of a Roman Site but we got a few finds, ending the near 6 hour hunt with:

13 Roman Coins
Livery Button
Roman Fibula (Brooch)
Medieval Horse Harness Hanger
Medieval Purse Bar Loop (Broke)
Medieval Strapend
Flint Lock Gun Part
Silver band for a pipe
1872 Silver Fob Watch Chain piece
1567 Threepence (Lizzy) (Dad got this the other day on the bean field, 2.5 hour hunt)
1817 Sixpence
Most interesting find - Lead Ladies Head, circa 16th C, this is our first & a rare find outside of the London foreshore.

Another successful hunt with a lot of targets recovered. Of course, I love the Lizzie, but that silver watch chain piece is a cool find that rarely turns up, especially with the hallmarks.

Cru,

Nice mix of finds as usual.

Regards + HH

Copse field is still producing. Thats crazy. Most of this goes to the Deus i guess. :icon_thumleft: The womans head is way cool and the watch chain bar looks exact the same like cow chains are made....:laughing9:

Nice assortment is there a little gold gilt on one of your buttons

Although it's less than 1/2 acre, its right next to the Copse in the good area & I think this is the first deep plough I can remember. So most fell to the Deus, but Cru'Dad got 2 I think.

There is silver left on the Livery, not much gilt on the flatties.

Good question, looking for answers?

My thoughts, its 18th C, tombac, broken half of a hollow tubed object,,, but I have no guessing, never seen another.

Perhaps an breached barrel ?

Got an obverse pic ?
