I picked these up when I had first started collecting. I always pick up deer skulls, hog teeth and whatever random stuff I think is pretty neat ( though the miss at home may think different) I always assumed these were teeth from something, but could never think of what animal could have skinny, sharp teeth like these. After not seeing them for a few years, I just now pulled them out and see some resemblance to gar scales I have seen online in the past. So if anyone could direct me towards what the heck these might be from I would really appreciate it.

Those are Gar scales for sure, nice find:notworthy:

I would have to say I agree the more gar scales I look at. I guess my next question would be, are these the natural shapes, or would these have been used as points? They certainly look like they could be projectiles as is. What really made me sick when I really started looking at these, was I only picked a handful of them up and left many behind, and this was well before I properly identified and logged any finds.:BangHead: I guess it would have qualified as a "cache" with now many were laying in a pile

I'm pretty sure these haven't been altered by man, but gar scales were in fact used as 'points'. nice.

BW is right they used gar scales all over the place for points.

Thanks for all the input. They werent found near any modern rivers or lakes so I figured maybe they had brought the fish/scales back to camp , or the lake had since disappeared. I did find a whole lot of other artifacts with these, but I couldn't tell you what all I picked up it been so long
