Yesterday my brother went to the local dump to empty the work junk trailer, and this is what he found. Some guy was there just ahead of him, his mother had just passed away, and he threw out all her stuff. I can't believe this idiot, he must have hated his mother! Anyway, my brother nabbed all this stuff before the bulldozer came to push the days garbage into the landfill. Apparently the guy paid his dump fees with antique money and threw out the rest. There is jewelry marked 14 and 18 K, silver items, some costume pieces, various old coins, even paper money! These are some of the items he found. Happy for my brother, what a save!

Guess that was his way to move on. Good for your bro though.

It is so sad that the gentlemans Mother's possessions were tossed out with no care to her memory! Even though this was a totally callous act, congrats to your brother for taking advantage of the discarded items. I believe that if this was my find and a name could be associated with the items, I would contact other family members so that this callous person could get the berating they so truly deserve.

wow. amazing what some people just consider to be junk

I don't understand how someone could throw away family heirlooms especially your own mothers. Congratulations to your brother on making a amazing recovery, those are some awesome finds.

Is this a case of someone's loss is another's gain

without knowing anything and just discovering such a find, I think you would be blown away by finding this simply "dumped"

It's a score indeed

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Well well well...my brother and his wife came out to our new place (we finished moving in today). One of the very cool things he found was this stained glass window. It's simply amazing that it's not broken. My brother gave it to us, as our new house is sort of old school with coffered ceilings, wainscoting, crown moulding etc. He also gave me this coin that was in the stuff the deceased woman's son threw away. What a nice guy lol.

An older couple my Mom and Aunt helped keep house for, the wife passed and the husband told my mother and aunt to clean out the closets and give their daughters his wife's jewelry. My Sister and my cousin got the jewelry, my Sister treasured hers and my cousin thought it was costume jewelry, so she gave hers to her theater group to use for the plays they performed, well it wasn't costume, my sister had a Ruby necklace appraised at over 5700.00 and a diamond broach she had made into her and her husbands wedding set. Some people have no idea what they have.

This story reminds me of when my grandmother died back in the early 90's. My uncle was going to throw everything in her desk away. My mother told him not to do this and took the trashbags to go through. She found $10,000 in bonds earmarked for my uncle (which she gave to him, he told her "Well, she must not have left you any!"). She and my aunt later found theirs inside items my grandmother had left to each of them.

This shows that you never know what is there and you should look through everything. You never know what you will find that has sentimental value to you (it doesn't have to be money!).

It takes all kinds to make this world go around and some just don't want to "waste" their time.

Nice save. Makes you wonder about all the treasures that must be lying meters underground in garbage tips.

Ya whats up with that dude, looks like you and your brother came just in time..Nice save...

Back-of-the-boat and Tenspeed, those are crazy stories! It never ceases to amaze me how many people have no clue as to what is valuable, and have no appreciation for old things.

K1DDO1979, yes I was happy to see the coin is I such good shape!

Rick (Nova Scotia), thank you!
