If i remember correctly the at gold will only work in the dry sand.

At gold is not waterproof.

Yes. It gets chattery near the wet sand and surf, but should be ok in fresh water. I believe the Gold runs on a higher frequency than the at pro but is better suited for small gold, but not saltwater wet sand or surf.

The AT Pro and Gold are NOT designed for saltwater use. You will lose 1/3 - 1/2 of your depth and sensitivity in wet saltwater sand. You'll be just fine in the dry sand.

Garrett website says it is. "ALL TERRAIN
Designed for use in wet, humid and dusty environments. Weatherproof housing can be immersed in water to 10-foot (3m) depth."
AT Gold Features

Oh ya, you are correct. I was on kellyco website comparing detectors and must have looked on the wrong row or something. Still it's not recommended for salt environs.

I wouldn't use either detector for either type of hunting. There are much better choices for both. At the low end in price, I would still get two detectors, a name brand PI machine for the surf and a Gold Bug for nuggets. If you can't stand digging iron at the beach, move up to one of the Minelab machines. Same goes for nuggets, you can get one all the way up to the Minelab 5000.

At gold is not waterproof.

I have one and it is definitely waterproof to 10 feet, but they say it cannot be ground balanced in saltwater.

It can be adjusted and balanced, but you lose a lot of depth.

Does that mean I could use it in salt water beach?

You can use anything you want on a saltwater beach. Don't know how successful you will be but there it is.

Garrett will tell you for salt water get the At pro if you get one use frequency 4 and sensitivity4 lines down from max works great i have found coins and rings at 14 to 15 inches good luck and have fun .

Really, 14-15 inches in the salt water? Man maybe I missed something! Might need to sell my Pi machine and buy back my AT Pro!

I was lucky to get 4-6 inches (ATP) near Myrtle Beach with about 4-5 bar sens on a coin size target. This was in the wet sand and knee deep surf. Really, your just hoping for recent drops that aren't too deep.

Umm, there is no freaking way you are getting anything besides a buried 1957 Chevrolet that deep in wet salwater sand with an AT Pro.

I'm sorry, did I say that out loud?

You must have....I heard it clear over here! :laughing7: I agree, that's just wishful thinking.
