Anybody else?s depth gauge reading a lot deeper than the actual target depth on their AT Pro? This has been a constant problem even after ground balancing. A friend just got the AT Max and is experiencing the same problem.

My Equinox depth gauge reads about 2 inches deeper than the target actually is.....that is.....if the meter says 8 inches, it's usually just 6 inches down. I can usually tell more about the depth by sound than the meter.

Anything on the screen is just a guess. It's all about the sound. VDI's lie.

My MX Sport is the same. Targets are not as deep as indicated. With that knowledge, if it says 2" on a coin and it is not there and the carrot says deeper it is normaly a large piece of junk I do not want.

A few things to keep in mind.

First, the depth gauge is "calibrated" for coin targets.

Second, soil conditions can make a big difference, even after ground balancing (no ground balance is perfect, especially because ground conditions can change every few feet).

When the depth gauge on either the Pro or Max shows four bars, most people assume that it means the target is eight inches deep but the reality of it is that it means the target is between six and eight inches deep. That's why many think the depth gauge is reading deeper than the target actually is. One bar means that the target is somewhere between surface and two inches deep.
Hope that clears things up a bit.
