I am heading to the beach next week for 2 days and am taking my gti 1500. Can anyone supply any good tips on how to set this machine up for the beach and wet sand? I read that the gti 1500 is not to good in the wet sand. Is this true? Thanks for any info.

Just got back from the beach. The GTI 1500 performed excellent in the dry sand and even better with the 12 1/2" imaging coil. The beach was very clean so there was not much trash to be dug. Found a little over $7 in change and 1 ring that comes up in the middle of the gold scale, it is white so I guess it might be white gold, I dont know there is a 925 written on the underside, I dont know what that means but I thought someone said it was the foreign way to mark gold. Anyway as I said the detector is great in dry sand but horrible in the wet sand and the surf, it kept going off with nothing there constantly and If I put it in the water at all it just overloaded. I am new to detecting so I have not made any adjustments to the factory settings as garrett states none should be made until you have 100 hours on the machine and I have no where near that. Good Luck on your treasure adventures!!! Rich

Sounds like you had fun.
That 925 means it's silver.Here is a list to help you out.

Gold
K = Karat
KP = Karat Plumb (exact amount of gold)
K.P. = Karat Plate
GF = Gold Filled (heavy plating), usually has a fraction, i.e., 1/20 10K GF
GS = Gold Shell
HGE = Heavy Gold Electroplate
Decimal equivalents of karat ratings:
.375 = 9K (England and Canada)
.417 = 10K
.500 = 12K
.583 (.585) = 14K
.667 = 16K
.750 = 18K
.833 = 20K (Asia)
.917 = 22K (Asia)
.999 (1000) = 24K pure gold

Silver
925 (.925) = Sterling
Sterling
STER
.999 Fine = Pure Silver

Platinum
Pt? 950
PLAT

The 1500 has a salt elimination.look in search aid and turn on. And you can work in wetted sand. best luck. :) kdismuke1

The GTI 1500 has the Salt Elimination mode, but that doesn't mean it will be stable at every location on the wet sand or in the waves. This is because the salt content changes and there is also black sand present which will throw off all detectors but PI's and Minelabs. The Garrett can still be used well on the dry sand and in the wet at some beaches, but not all. Put her in the salt mode and turn down the sensitivity a lot and you might be OK.

Good Luck.
